    Aqua/Turquoise 35-45mm Stem Options

    Hi all,

I've been thinking to shorten my 60mm stem for awhile. I've been having a bit of back pain on longer rides and was hoping that the more upright position provided by a shorter stem might help.

I recently decided to take the plunge and get a nice 35-45mm stem. I was initially drawn to Profile's helm stem, as it comes in a 40mm option (exactly the length I'm looking for), is available in turquoise (exactly matches my color scheme), and is made in the US. However, it seems the turquoise color is no longer available as their anodizer? (sorry if I'm using the wrong term) for the turquoise color was lost.

I haven't been able to find another option that has a turquoise color. Both Chromag and Deity make very nice stems, but I think their blue is slightly too dark. Does anyone know if another manufacturer makes a 31.8 turquoise stem, or if Chromag's/Deity's blue actually is on the lighter side?

Here's some pictures to get an idea about the color I'm thinking about.

    Thanks for any recommendations.

I9 would be perfect if they made a 31.8 option.

Dartmoor's Funky stem looks to come it an aqua color, the only problem is finding any information on where to source their stuff stateside or how much it costs. Has anyone had experience with them before? I'm also wondering what the quality would be vs something like a Chromag or i9 stem.

The Spank stems are blue. Hope, Azonic, and Loaded also make blue stems. Turquoise is hard to find.

Straightline Components out of Canada does an "Atomic Blue" color in Turquoise. I've bought some stems and seat collars from them and it's really well made CNC stuff.

Thanks for the recommendations. Straightline would have been perfect, but unfortunately they don't seem to be making the Atomic Blue color anymore and all their old stock is gone. Hope, Azonic, and Loaded also make some nice stems, but everything seems to be darker than what I'm looking for.

I didn't resize you can shim bars. I feel a little iffy adding another part between the stem and the bars, but I'll definitely look into it. I'm also thinking about just getting a 35mm bar and going with a 35mm stem. If anyone wants a 31.8 Renthal Fatbar Carbon Lite let me know.

I understand that it's probably safe, but after some research and talking with a few mechanics, I still feel a bit uncomfortable with the possibility of slippage and chance of uneven clamping forces on carbon bars.

Because of basically no manufacturers offering a turquoise stem, I've decided to expand my search to just a nicely machined stem in raw, turquoise, or lime. I've seen some 35mm bars for between $40-50, and am thinking about going with both a new stem and new bars, as long as the total is under $140.

I'm currently thinking about ANVL Swage, Hope AM-FR, or a Chromag Ranger. All are offered in a raw and look to be pretty nicely machined.

Thanks for the suggestions and help.

I have a 50mm Turquoise Straightline that I'd be willing to sell you for a few bucks less than what I paid for it if you're interested. I have a matching seat collar as well, depending on the size you need.

How much were you thinking? I was hoping to keep the length less than 45mm and buy a "forever" stem (at least one that would last for a good few years as geometry continues to get longer and longer). However, if the price is reasonable I might be willing to try out a 50mm instead.

Thanks for the offer either way.
