11spd Sram Chain on Shimano Cassette

    Hi

I have a Scott Genuis 710 plus (full spec here: https://www.startfitness.co.uk/scott...ey-249566.html)

    Cassette: Shimano SLX CS-M7000 / 11-42 T
    Crankset:
    Shimano XT FC-M8000-B2 / Hollowtech 2 34x24 T

    My chain (
Shimano CN-HG601) is badly bent from a ride last night. My local bike shop only has an SRAM chain in stock (SRAM PC-1130 11Spd PowerLock Chain (120link) Silver) - the mechanic said 'SRAM is compatiable with Shimano so it will be fine'. I have read many mixed things online with many saying that 11 spd SRAM and Shimano are not cross compatible (here for example: https://www.biketiresdirect.com/chai...bility-article)

Should I just trust him and let him put the SRAM on, or should I order a Shimano CN-HG601 from the internet?

I left the bike at the shop, for him to do it tomorrow, so I need to know before the morning so I can call and cancel before he does it (if I need to).

    Many thanks

There are plenty of threads already on this, next time try searching and you may find the answer a lot easier. And yes, it is compatible.

Thanks. I have searched and found many conflicting answers, most saying that 5 to 10 SPD are compatible, but 11 aren't. So I wanted to check my specific parts to see if anyone could give me a definitive answer for the specific chain and cassette. Thanks

There is no compatibility issue for 11-speed per se, even when the cassette manufacturers claim for best performance it is best to use their chain...
for 12-speed, there is an advantage to have it all from shimano, though (hyperglide+)

But it doesn't matter, since the chain you were offered is the NX chain, which has a short life anyway and shifts like s%%t.

Thanks. So... The Sram is compatible, but the Shimano hg601 is better, so I should get that?
