    What is this Skewer for

OK so I just got this used bike a few days ago... commuter bike, pretty cool... beside the point. So anyway, it came with a rear mounted rack... normal enough... but on the back of the rack is a Q/R Skewer, what is that for??? To mount and extra bike??? Carry a spare skewer??? Mount some sort of trailer??? Confuse the hell out of stupid people???

    Any ideas?

Can you get a pic of where it is attached to the bike.

It could well be for attaching a trailer or even towing a second bike. Securely attaching a piece of luggage?

Is it the right length for a bike fork?
Does it look like original equipment or something a previous owner rigged?

    ... mysteries, mysteries ...

What bike do you have, anyway?

Maybe it was an ingeniuos way to attach a cargo box to the rack quickly.

... but what is it doing on the rack? Just being stored until you want to attach a BOB trailer?

Here are some photos of the rack with the skewer. I don't think its for Bob Trailer because its up too high... your trailer would be at a funky angle... and it looks a little to involved to just store a skewer to me... idk!

Looks like you're ready to tow a bike. You could tow your MTB to the trail head, lock up your road bike, then ride the trail.
    I ride at ludicrous speed

Then get back to the trail head to find out your road bike is missing but the lock is still there.

most likely for towing a bike.
could also be for a saddle bag but relocated to behind the rack like so
