Taking the long way home today
So today is the first nice day in a LONG time, and I'm riding to work because the trails are still total slop. Wife sprung on me last night that we need some things from Trader Joe's, but she's working a 12hr shift that will probably become a minimum 14hr shift. So it's on me...and I had planned to commute today. TJ's is nowhere close to where I work or where I live, so it'll be a substantial detour.

I've plotted my route to account for the visit to TJ's. Looks like it'll be close to a 50 mile day (the commute is 40+ just by itself RT).

At least it's a nice day for it.

The Trader Joe's on 82nd would be a 140 mile detour for me. :)

Enjoy the ride. Yes, the weather for riding has been crappy of late.

I ended up at the TJ's at 86th and Township Line Rd. Detour was only a couple of miles. I didn't know there was one there until one of my coworkers pointed it out. It let me take a more interesting long route into downtown Indy just to catch a couple people I know leaving after the last race of IndyCrit finished up. Too bad I didn't get to see any of the races, but on a weekend like this, I'm one of the handful of guys who has to work to cover for people doing the big events.

GPS data is still loading, but I think I'm a couple miles short of 50 for the day. I briefly considered riding around the block to round out my daily total. But it was just too perfect for the trip odometer for my ride home to hit 27.00 right as I rolled up to the front steps. And, my quads are absolutely on fire.

It was closer than I thought. Got the rides uploaded, and the daily total was 49.6mi. I could have finished off the 50 by riding back and forth on my driveway once or twice.

Do it twice for a century ;), that be about a 500 mile detour for me.

A century ride through the middle of the city with all the intersections and the stopping? It was frustrating enough at the length I did wind up riding. Ugh. If I wanted a century ride, I'd head east onto some country roads.

But what did you buy at TJs? A case of 2 buck chuck, 20lb bag of dog food, milk, orange juice? The extra miles don't sound too bad but the extra miles loaded do.

stocking up on shampoo/conditioner. Nothing terribly exciting, but I added several pounds to my load because I buy a bunch at a time. While I was there I thought I'd love to buy a few other things...but the shampoo filled the remaining space I had left in the one pannier I had (which had my work clothes, coffee cup, and my locks already in it). I should have taken both panniers, and then I probably would have bought some 2 buck chuck and maybe some nonperishable snacks.
