    Stupid fender question

Okay, I know this is dumb but I don't know the answer. I had my first ride in wet slush mixed with road salt this morning and I'm about ready to break down and buy fenders. My frame and fork are drilled for fenders, but the arms that connect to the chain stays, do you share the same hole that mounts the rear rack? It's the only place I can see to mount those arms, so do I just double them up?

I'm looking at Planet Bike fenders on Amazon if it matters.

If you only have one set of holes, double it up!

Ideally, you'd have them separate, but if you can't, make sure the fender stays are on the outside, and grab a couple of high grade (10+) bolts.

If that's not an option, grab a couple of pipe clamps (they sell rubberized ones just for bicycles) and use those to bolt the fender stays to the seat stays.

Hmm...will have to go back and look and see if I missed something. The frame has the other holes drilled for fenders and this bike has an option that comes with a rack and fenders from the factory. I'd think they'd make it as easy as possible.

Occasionally a rack will have holes to mount fenders too, so you could use those instead if doubling causes clearance issues; they are in use on my On-one inbred with a tubus rack.

It would appear that's what Breezer does with their stock rack and fender setup. Looking at pictures online there is an extra piece to mount both at the same time. Kind of a bummer considering it's designed to be a commuter bike. My rack doesn't have the extra mounting holes.

Double it up or use clamps as they work good
