Studded Tire reccomendation 27.5" and 700C

Looked on the web and have only found the 650b Nokian A10 - ISO 40-584mm at peter white cycles. It seems to narrow and too few studs. Is the 650b market too new?

For my 700c hybrid. Should I get the widest tires possible and whats the ideal stud count?

    It's so complicated.

I dunno about 650b, but 29ers have been around for quite awhile now, and as of this winter there are only 3 tire options. I wouldn't be surprised if the 650b market is behind.

Generally though, I think stud count is a little overrated.

I've got the 26" Nokian mount&ground, and I don't have any issues with the studs - but I do have issues with the tread and the width. They're my fair-weather or backup studded tires, but they're terrible in fresh snow. My get-me-through-anything studs are 29" ice spiker pros, but again, I don't really have much to say about the (ridiculous) number of studs - but I do wish the tread design was geared more towards snow instead of ice-racing.

My nokians have held up much better than my schwalbes, if that helps.

Schwalbe is now making Ice spiker pros in 650b Ice Spiker Pro HS 379 | Schwalbe North America

That is the only option I found other than the A10s when I was looking. Maybe some others were announced at interbike? Or can always DIY.

3 29er options? There are plenty more than that. The A -10 is really a minimalist studded tire. How wide a tire can you fit on the hybrid? I use the nokian hakkapalita in 700 x35, seems to work well in most cases except for really deep stuff.

I run Nokian Hakkapeliitta WS240's on my commuter, never had an issue with them on ice or shallow snow. I typically don't ride when there's a lot of snow on the ground, so I can't speak to how they are in the deep snow.

Thanks for your replies. I talked to my lbs and they can get me the ice spiker pros for $140 a tire. To me its a good price for a wide tire with 375 studs. Gonna get some ASAP. So happy now I can have a safer ride on my 650b.

375 is an insane number of studs. I have the W240s that Straz posted and I wish I could lose half the studs in exchange for a lighter tire.
