    Stolen saddles

I see loads of bikes in the city where I live locked up and missing the saddle. Most of the bikes are cheap, so I doubt there were expensive saddles on them.
Do thieves really go after them, or is it a common "practical joke" to steal them?

Commom tactic to prevent theft, take the seat with you, and the thieves will still the bike with a seat.

This. Plus on a good bike, the saddle/seatpost is super easy to steal. 10 seconds and done. If the seat isn't there, nothing to steal.

Make a chain using a old chain

and wrap it threw the rails of the saddle and then thru the seat stays, connect the ends and youve got a seat lock. To keep it from messing up your paint and clothes you can use a old tube and cover the chain.

... or you can buy oddball locking seat post clamps.

I replaced my QD clamps with hex clamps and just risk it.
