    Although that's just me. Around here I think a fair number of fixies might run studded up front and keep a slick on the back. I don't pay attention to their braking setup, but if they're brakeless that could be pretty crappy. (even with my studded tires, it's really easy for me to lock the rear wheel and just keep on sliding)

    I have one bike for all my riding ('06 Coiler), so tires and fenders are the difference between spring/summer/fall and winter riding. Right now, and for about 5 weeks now, I've been running an aggressive AM tread, had these tires for 4 years now...they've slipped/slid ONCE per year. When the nasty stuff hits, I put on the studded tires; generally, they're only on for a couple weeks. Last year was the exception, with a horrendous January, snow-wise. The fenders go on when the fall rains start to show up, and usually from Thanksgiving until about Cinco de Mayo, they STAY on the bike.

    Personal gear is winter-weight tights under the work clothes when the daily HIGHS drop below 50-55F, winter coat when under 40F, insulated coveralls below about 20-25F. I have a couple knit caps, gloves for each temperature range, a good balaclava, and a microfiber facemask with mesh in the front to cut down on fogging the glasses. (I HATE it when the fog freezes on the inside of the lenses!)

    I do have to replace my heavy winter socks from last year -- they lasted about 10 rides, GRRRR!
    A bike is the only drug with no bad side effects....
