    Need new tires!

    Hi there,

I have a pretty old Mongoose M-30 Exile with 26 x 2.00 tires on it at the moment that need to be replaced ASAP.

I use this bike primarily to get to campus and back (Roughly a mile each way) with decent pavement to get me there and back. Water could be present anytime since it is Florida after all.

My other main use for this bike is to do 5-15 mile workouts on pavement.

If anyone has any good tires in mind that would suit my needs very well I would be very appreciative. I definitely went the cheap/ easy way with my current tires and they didn't last as long as I would have hoped.

Budget is up to $50/$60 per tire (If they are really worth it)

I use this bike nearly every day and it is currently being kept outside but covered.

    Thanks!

You might want to check out the Continental Double Fighter II - for both front and back. They are good on the pavement, with a little grip on the edges just in case you hit some dirt. Only draw back is wet or slippery conditions - as would be the case with any similar tire. Sharp turns could be trouble in the wet. It's a good tire - I ran them for a time when I was commuting on the street. They are reasonably priced through Amazon - Amazon.com : Continental Double Fighter II Urban Bicycle Tire (26x1.9) : Bike Tires : Sports & Outdoors

    Good luck!

Thanks! Those look great. I do have one more concern though...which tubes should I go with? Would any for that size tire do well?

I used kenda k-rads all last year commuting even in the snow. They look knobby but honestly roll extremely well with the inverted tread. Cheap as hell too.

Any 26 x 1.75-2.125 tube should be fine. That's what I ran in mine.

Thanks so much. I'll do some more research as to which of these two tires would best suite my needs.

    Happy commuting!

Another vote for k-rads here. They are great on road, gravel and dry trails. And they are usually less than $15 apiece online.
Yeah I only carry cans cause I'm a weight weenie.

With that short of a commute I would go with something knobbier than my Schwalbe Big Apples. Go for Krads or Small block eights.
