    Lynskey groce-cross superleggera :)

So I have finally gotten all parts I need for my new commuter build. It will start today.

I will sucessfully rape and abuse a Lynskey pro-cross into a grocery getting cruise missile.

it started its life as this:

maybe we should start with the stuff I will be using for this lovely build.

i will be using 1 pair of wheels to get it finished by sunday night but the final build will use another pair of wheels that I have not measured yet, so I have no spokes for it.

    rims: tk540/xr400
    hubs: shimano slx f/r
spokes: dt 2,0-1,8-2,0 silver laced 3x
    nipples: dt brass black
    tires: schwalbe 35mm marathon winter

rims 2: dt xm401 front, ex471 rear, polished silver instead of black anodized
    hubs 2: dt350 with 36t ratchets iso
spokes 2: dt 2,0-1,8-2,0 silver or black
    nipples 2: dt brass silver

stem: some crap i have laying around
handlebar: nitto promenade b602aa and/or nitto b302aa north road 490mm
    shifters: sram grip shift x0
brake levers: not decieded yet, i have 3 different ones ranging from xt "tour", to new production that looks like 10y/o xt to sram sd7.
    brakes: bb7 mtn
cabling: ss cables from jagwire and their best outers, silver weave
    rd: x9 9sp shortest cage
    fd: none of that crap
cranks: ultegra 5 bolt, last gen with 5 bolt, 130mm, 175mm, ground down outer ring.
    bb: deore with good lube
chainring: steel shimano 42t crap series (but good durability)
    chain: kmc x9.93
saddle: selle italia slr cross flow nero puro limited edition all black kevlar reinforced, to rails
    seatpost: thomson silver
    seat clamp: lynskey
light: lupine wilma r with smartcore battery
fenders: honjo alu (for the lightness )
    grips: some crap ergo specialized
bag: highly modded topeak to hold the lock
lock: pragmasis 11mm chain and squire closed shackle padlock
cassettes: shimano 9sp hg300-9's 11-32 and 11-34 to make 7 speeds with all possible cogs, 11-32/11-30
pedals: red straitlines defacto filled with molykote
    fork: disc trucker, blue
discs: shimano cl 180/160 for now and then later sram cleansweep 180/160 iso
basket: some crap i found locally, quite heavy

I built up a Lynskey Urbano about two months ago for the same reason. Love that bike. I built it with Ultegra 5700 stuff, TRP Rd/Hyd, Cowchipper Bars, Cane Creek ST post, Brooks B17, and MTB wheels (Xt laced to i23s) running 40mm Happy Mediums. My favorite bike ever.
(Even displaced my '82 Colonago Mexico Record FWIW)

the urbano seems to be a cooper cx with "road" braze ons/routing. I have a 2015 or so (non tapered headtube) cooper. it rides like a dream.

and now I have another lynskey. it was 1300 on lynskeys site labelled as a 2017 model, but they infact sent me a 2018 model with fork mrsp was 4500 lol. but realistic pricing was 2500. still 50% off. me gusta.
I just couldn't pass on 1300. didnt really need another bike but, yeah what can you do? n+1

I know some of you will have doubts about this 9sp cassettes and building/running them as 7sp. since you very well know car bone always runs 6sp, built from 8sp cassettes.

the truth is this: the x9 9sp rd has very little range of the "limiter screws",I mean they move a lot but the action in limitiong range is still very limited, it will simply not be able to limit the travel at 6 cogs inwards the wheel. I'm guessing it will reach its limit at about 7 cogs. I know for a fact it will do 8sp, but thats just 1 cog "locked out" on a 9sp cass. I tired it at its limit in my hand and I'm guessing it will do a 7sp max. the only thing preventing the rd from going over the big cog and beyond is the limiting screws. And this one is simply made for 9sp, nothing more nothing less, wiggle room is minimal.

This is a totally different design compared to shimano where you can run a 3sp if you want.

It is exactly a Cooper with road cable routine. I got the frame and fork for 1,600 on closeout. Pretty seriously good deal.

so i tried on the promenade bar. basically it sucked ass. I could not get any power down to the pedals whatsoever so it had to go. I guess I lost about 5km/h in cruising speed compared to my nitto dirtdrops

and by most people are asking themselves hey wtf didnt that frame come with a bling bling carbon fork?
yeah it DID, now it has a lugged surly long haul trucker instead, or as i like to think of it, the ice road hucker. with a tapered to regular bottom race
I didnt do too well with the paint there either i see.

Instead I blinged it out with pedals and cranks and other ultra bling items

lets have a look at the nitto north road up side down. This pretty much gives the same hand position as the nittor dirt drops but you can now use mtb levers/shifters. ultra comfortable. just like flared drop bar.
only downside here is that you pretty much only have that singe position. with the dirt drops you can ride on the center top section which i usually do on steep hills. But here you need to ride the forward bends, kinda like superman..

these are however vert nice bars, this is the narrow width alu version, and after snapping those pics I flipped the stem up side down. perfect now.

also somme may be wondering whats the chainring clearance of this crap??

    plenty I'd say!

thats a 42t on the inner position with the cranks centered on the frame. I'm guessing it would swallow a 53 in the inner pos, no problem.

    questions about the build?
questions about bb7s and why I run them?
questions about how to professionally paint bikes?
questions about how shitty srams RD's are?
questions about how shitty grips shifts really are?

    I can answer them

Beautifully ugly. Love it, though I was at first appalled by it. Now I keep looking at the pictures of it.
