How to transport small dog(10 lbs.) by bike

My family recently got a tiny dog that is roughly about the size of a house cat and I would prefer to bike him to a local park and then walk him there. Does anyone have a suggestion of what type of hardware, bag, etc., would suit this task?

I recommend a trailer. risk of broken bones for the dog is very high if it jumps out of a taller basket at bike speed.

I would put it in a small plastic dog or cat crate and secure it to a rack really well. Like with short Thule straps not bungies.
