Yup On the flats without wind I can spin out 46 x 13 with my 32mm slicks...

On a 2.1 inch knobby I run at least two gears lower...

    35 mile test rides:

    26x2.0 Fast Trak LK tire

More comfortable and able to confidently do very rough gravel roads, IE; less limiting routes. Find myself pedaling more and more the longer the ride is (downshifting). Lower average speed, too. When done; whew, exhausted! That's a lot of rolling weight.

    26x1.5 Specialized Borough CX tire

Make me nervous, flat wise. (Did I just run over that rather large pincer bug? Oh no! Flat?) Less comfortable. Mostly the same gear throughout. But, like Jeff mentioned, two (or three) gears higher than the fat tire. When done; let's do that again! Wait. Forgot to reset the computer for the smaller tire size? (HaHa! Just kidding. ;) )

Edit: Messed that last part up.
