I'm not sure where the davis amtrak station is, but if you want to get to Davis from downtown sac you can use capital ave. Go over the urine colored bridge into west sac and continue straight on west capital. Right before west capital merges onto 80 there's a gas station and right next to the gas station is the bike trail that runs along the causeway.

It's been several years, but Beolin's route is correct. The bike trail runs parallel between the tracks and I-80. Should take you all the way to 2nd Street and Amtrak.

To be specific, the bike trail will end on Olive Blvd, on the opposite side of the RR tracks from the station. Your options are to continue on Olive to Richards, and swing into downtown Davis, or - when the frontage road crosses the RR tracks, at the beginning of the bike trail, cross the tracks and stay with the road. Cross Mace Blvd and continue on Second St. Either route requires detouring through downtown Davis. There is no direct bike path to the train station. That would be too obvious and simple for the People's Republic of Davis
You could take the bike path to Olive and then hike-a-bike across the tracks, but I would suggest against that. That is a very busy intersection of tracks, and several people have been killed there by trains.
