I guess I'm a little surprised that the existing law doesn't already cover bikes?

When ours was introduced it explicitly applied to anything considered a "vehicle" under the Traffic Safety Act, which includes bikes. (Although I'm not sure how our law applies to bikes on multi-use trails or other non-roads, since those aren't part of the traffic safety act)

Yet another distraction topic from the cager lobby. Yes, it's dangerous to ride a bike and use a phone. But, motorist do far more distracting things than just use a phone while driving: eating, listening to loud music, distracting passengers, etc, using a phone--even when illegal.

The tactic is: talk about the dangerous things cyclists do, while ignoring the fact that cars kill 30000+ a year.

You mean a driver actually took their eyes off the Facebook feed on their crotch long enough to see I was talking on the phone for a sec?

Even in that implausible scenario, Ontario law on mobile devices expressly applies to motor vehicles.

So they can instagram me for all I care.

In VT, the new law against handheld use only applies to driving a motor vehicle, but you won't find me using the phone while riding anyhow, and I wouldn't be opposed to a ban.

Man, I thought our ban for anyone operating a "vehicle" was a totally reasonable way to implement it. But now I'm jealous.
