Oh, it is on that side of Africa... pretty "warm" and dry I think.

    Anti-pirate action?

Meanwhile I am waiting for things to be so bad here that moving to Kenya is the only option; I have been unemployed in San Jose, CA for just short of two years, if I moved to Kenya I would have plenty of relatively high-tech work. Some day soonÖ a bike ride up Kilimanjaro, or even Mount KenyaÖ

we have a lot of kenyans on base now ........kenya told obama to hire them or get out so.

i hope to never work in the US again.

we also get a lot of royal navy here on camp.

they dont let the ex royal marines come on camp.......i dont think the US navy likes mercenaries.

oh djibouti is full of mercenaries right now with the pirate thing going on.

I'm more impressed that this lasted 4 days and noone made any jokes about "booty"!
Unless the jokes RE the "royal navy hanging around" was a veiled... no... best not to go there. *ahem!*

I have to say, I'm loving this forum more and more.
I spent some time in several countries in South America, never had anything past a dumpster bmx to ride.
It's perspective altering to see things like bicycles meandering through the post-hurricane Monterey, or past the gallows as above.
Reminds me of the reaffirmation, the emotional and mental re-balancing that riding a bike does for me.

Something poignant here. The gallows: a simple machine assigning death; A bicycle: a simple machine affirming life. Amen.

Nice writeup. Would be nice to visit Eritrea, Ethiopia, or Kenya, if your visit/work allows. Much less dumpy, I guarantee it (just be sure to avoid the Kibera slums in Nairobi and youíre golden!).

Good deal! East African women will treat you right!

Many claim Ethiopia to be the actual origin of Christianity. Iím not religious, but a lot of uneducated white Americans assume that Africa is full of militant jihadist terrorists, and frequently accuse them of all being Muslims, never once thinking that they are on the same page. Amazing what a bit of education does to a person.

And all Muslims aren't jihadists either. Quite a decent percentage of African Muslims are not even all that devout, and many mix Islam with traditional religion.
