I actually had my first near-miss in months this morning on a left hook attempt. My road bike rode decelerated stylishly on it's front wheel only as I shouted some profanity-laced words of dismay.

Oddly, the incident ended with a polite roadside conversation in which he apologized for the failing to see me and I retracted the profanity. All was well.

I did find out that bike has pretty good brakes.

Its such a rush rush world. Drivers will pass and cut off cyclists at an intersection. Cyclists will run red lights. Rushing might save few seconds, but might take a life or cause injury. I wish we were as bike focused like the Dutch.
