    Converting drops to jones bar

    Hey there!
So, Iím riding a salsa vaya with an ultegra FD, avid bb7 road brakes, 105 RD, and 105 sti shifters. I find that I never ride in the drops and would like to try the whole flat bar commuting, as ride on the road to stay in shape to ride single track. I keep finding mixed messages about compatibility of Shimano mtn and road components. Thus far, I believe I can use an Xt 10 speed rear shifter with the 105 RD, and Shimano BL-R780 Deore XT Brake Levers with the bb7 road brakes. I am currently unclear about the compatibility of a flat bar shifter with the ultegra FD as I have a 50 tooth big cog on my double. Any help would be much appreciated!

shimano makes a flat bar shifters, and brake levers that will work with F & RD and your ROAD BB7s. Just make sure the levers are for caliper and not V brakes. Its a cheap conversion and you dont have to worry about compatibility.
