Communting in SLC on a SS / Fixie

    Hi everyone,

I currently live in Atlanta, GA and will be moving to SLC for graduate school. My current main commuter is a Kona Paddy Wagon SS / Fixie and I'm wondering if I should sell it or if I would be able to commute on it in SLC. My main route would be from somewhere in the Avenues to the University. Thanks for the insight.

There really isn't any way to get from anywhere in the avenues to the U of U without going up or down some pretty decently steep hills. I guess it just depends on hard you want to make it on yourself. Im sure you could pull it off but it might be an easier more enjoyable commute with some gears and at minimum a freewheel.

i would suggest that you get a bike with a couple of gears mostly because all the hills are fairly steep, the air is thin, you will probably end up pushing the bike rather than riding it for the first part of the year.

check out this site you can find some good steals here locally

Just gear it down if you must.
