    car bone builds some sh1t

So today I decied to "improve" my new topeak saddlebag. The improvements would consist of making it handle 2,5kg of steel (my pragmasis/squire lock) without it falling apart 1,0 curbs away from work. Now, I have another bigger topeak saddlebag on my other bike. And it fell apart literally after 5 minutes the first time I put my lock inside and rode it. I was highly impressed with the quality... So I had to "improve" it a bit.

This bag is smaller, 2 liters instead of 2,5.

So i started out with some alu plate I found laying around. cut it up and drilled some holes. And chamfered the edges. if you dont chamfer the edges on the plate it will rip the bag apart very quickly.
The corresponding holes in the bag I simply burnt with a red hot screwdriver. worked like a charm. The alu plate goes inside the bag.

Then i needed to figure out how to actually mount it to the saddle. I settled on industrial strength zipties. And then I needed to figure out how to mount the zipties to the bag. I wanted 2 alternate positions, to try out.

Then I simply put a thick rubber mat with holes in it (for the nuts and the drilled holes) between the bag and the rails. if you dont do this it will chatter and make noise like f*cking crazy! Ask me how I know!

And then pics of the finished product. Mounted on the bike.

    Or so I thought...

I couldnt actually open and close the bag while it was mounted

So I had to make some "spacers" to space it down a bit, away from the saddle. Worked very well. m8 nuts. The bolts are m6 so they slide right through.

Then we have the offenders! mr pragmasis and mr squire.

Then we have the lock inside the the bag with the final spacers installed.

    -------------------------------------------------

All in all it worked very well, the lock fits inside and well, now the bag handles 2,5kg, it would probably handle 10kg too but I dont have any such lock. I can also actually open and close the bag while its mounted on the bike and thats a major plus to me since the bag is not removable without me cutting the zipties.

I am curious to know if you can feel it back there when you are riding, and can you hear it making noise in that bag with the bumps on the road?
The pedals turn, not just the left one, but the right one too.

You can feel the weight yes. When mashing standing up it acts a "dampener" . slowing down the side to side oscillations a bit. Not necessarily a bad thing.

Yeah I hear the chain inside the bag. its steel. but its fairly quiet. The bag is just a tiny bit bigger than the chain so it doesnt really have any place to rattle around this time.
