    Alfine on Old MTB

I've got a 90 or so Marin that I can finally dip into as a commuter.

My roadie can't support anything larger than 28c, and the roads around here I are punishing on those tires.

So, I'd like to add some slicks, and make the bike a single (external) gear. Can I add an Alfine to it, or does it require a special frame?

btw I think the crazy paint will make it more visible to driver and also a little bit of theft deterrent. Nobody wants to ride a bike in the hood that ugly.

An Alfine internally geared hub will work just fine. Please see the IGH forum topic area for more details.
