There will be plenty of non-lift assisted riding in high country way early this year. Edumacated guess is April on Winter Park area south facing slopes, and possibly early May for much else except ski mountains. Go get some.

I dont think that will matter because with all this warm weather The melt has started and just hope most of it is gone before more comes..

With 50 + deg temps That snow is going to go fast in the next week.. With a 35" base i bet they close alot soon !!!

WP has a 50' inch base so it will take a little longer to melt but they are also due to be in the 50's for the next week as well..

Took this from there weather site !!

We have a weak and weakening La Nina SST pattern in place right, weakening now, and expected to possibly become an El Nino SST pattern this summer 2012. An El Nino pattern often means greater than usual thunderstorm and shower activity for the summer. CM

If you need to ride... Angel Fire Bike Park They open May 24th. Last year dozens of CO people were down there for opening weekend.

Oh and I am excited for the CO places to open, nice to be able to do a day trip to the lifts. AF requires a full weekend. So who wants to start arguing over which is better? Winter Park or t Keystone?

And what about these dark IPAs that are starting to pop up? I really like the Tommy Knocker, Hop Strike.

That's what we were saying a month ago but now the base has melted so much that no matter what falls late season it will be gone quickly. There's patches of dry lawn visible here at the base of Peak 9. I just hope we don't see the insanely dusty drought conditions of the early 2000s.
    Keep the Country country.

At this point, I'm afraid fire season is the larger concern.

There was more snow on the divide June 10, 2011

Than there is on March 29' 2012

Skied WP in the morning, though Outhouse looked like, well, a sheithouse, and the Trestle starting drop actually looked rideable

Then rode MTB on the backside SW facing slopes of Sol Vista in the afternoon

Not a ton of flow due to beetlekill deadfall but broke out the chainsaw and cleared trail for tomorrow

May be worth a bunch of arm twisting inbound calls to Sol Vista begging for early bike season.

Whoever opens earlier will get a lot of business. But regardless, I'll be out there early on my bike poaching trails before the lifts open.
