Have fun! I will be back, but in no shape to ride. Green Day is playing tonight at the "Gala" and then I have a very early flight home tomorrow.

That sounds like a great idea Nick! best to take advantage of the weather before it snows and we can't get as high. Let's ride a new loop.

I've wanted to try this but I'm just not sure how rough a climb that's gonna be. Little ring all the way or what, Nic?

I think it is a sustained 11% grade for 2.5 miles, it will be a slog but it is only 2.5 miles. Disclaimer; I have never ridden Long Draw Rd my information comes from strava. There is a short HB section on the Ute trail and a few punchy climbs, Disclaimer; I have ridden Ute many times. Who is up for a little adventure?

    Gears!

Great suggestion Nick! I was impressed how Nick chirped up almost immediately and supported the suggestion. You two work really well together.

I don't think I have done those trails in the past either... I am up for the challenge.

Nick, can you share a link to the Strava trail or guide, I just want to see if this is something that Julio can do.

At that time of night, we could probably Park where u would for the incline. The ute trail starts right there. I know the secret section of ute that will save us some effort.

I would guess it would take us somewhere between 3 and 4 hours at a moderate pace/effort. There will be some HB. Everyone will need to be prepared to work harder than normal we will be gaining 3000ft in 6 miles. Bring extra food and water for the unexpected. Is everyone up for this?

Google Earth'd it. Two sections: the climb and the descent. Total of a mere 10 miles. 3200 feet in the first 5.5 miles with average grade of 14% (580 feet per mile). Descent is 4.5 miles with 3000 feet loss, -10% grade. Totally doable. Might want a little ring up front for this one. Barr descent should be sweet.

FOr some lame reason I can only uload the one file.. even in two posts. Whatever. PM me if you want the other one.

Me To! sounds like a great loop. I have ridden down Longs Ranch road a bunch and it is steep with lots of big water bars in it, only takes 15ish min going down. When you get to the top ride down hill headed west as long as you can then bail left to find Bar trail.
Please let us know how it was, I want to try it soon.

Brian, you do during the day, not so sure at night. We could park one of the parks. Perhaps at the bottom of GOG. I've parked there many times for Williams Canyon rides, plus there is a bike path right there that takes us through/around Manitou.

I was just looking it up and I guess the $5 is a 24hr pass. I would guess that means at night you're supposed to pay too. I don't know how often they check that stuff... I just don't want a ticket. I also don't like the idea of climbing Ruxton...haha.

I'm in. I'll probably leave the G/F's house a little after 6 and try to catch up. Anyone wanting a longer pedal and free parking is welcome to join me; I'll be leaving from about 33rd and Kiowa.

That link is awesome. Details exactly what we are up to. I want to take a quick look at the old tunnel near the top of the Ranch Road as well as the Hurricane Canyon trailhead/split. Shouldn't add any real effort. We might also opt for "Bob's Road" as they call it on the incline site. Adds 1.4 easy miles extending Barr Trail.

Also, could we get a roll call here. I'm down for a little carpooling.

Nic, check again. I was talking about the road behind the pool. There is that little skate park? The road is El Paso Blvd and is what Pikes Peaks veers/becomes into if you are riding from downtown. 137 El Paso Blvd if you need an address. This keeps us on the back street and avoids riding up Manitou Ave.

Great times, good job everyone. Sometimes in life you need a bench mark to compare your experiences against. I think we have a new bench mark for a ***** of a climb. Thanks Chris for showing us the hidden single track.

So we went up the new machine cut bit right after the water treatment plant at the top of Rattlesnake Gulch. The soft soil, steep grade, and 300ft of climbing just to have to search for and bushwack through the scrub oak was a bad idea. Next time we should use the other trail since it is hard packed and only 150ft of climbing (shown in red).
