    Pueblo South video 12/7/08

I was down in Pueblo on Sunday in some spectacular sunny weather for December in Colorado, it was close to 70! In case you don't know, the Pueblo South Shore reservoir trail system has a myriad of trails. The lower and upper trails are mild singletrack while the gully's that interconnect the trails go from mild to wild. The gully's are compromised of ledges and drops, with ramps here and their. Lot's of slow speed turns and very technical moves make for some entertaining and sometimes scary riding.

I am learning how to use the GoPro video camera properly which I am currently testing for MTBR.com. In addition I have been learning rudimentary aspects of video editing, currently I am trying Power Director 7 for software.

Here is a trimmed together video of 3 of the more interesting gully's down at Pueblo South. First is Lower Dog, which is easy to blow the line in, and I have crashed on this one, second is Hooters Canyon which is wickedly steep, pretty short and scary, and the third is Bones, short and sweet. The camera of course makes it seem flatter then it really is!

    Hooters Canyon addition.

Hooters Canyon has an additional tech section, not shown on the video. Look for a slight right hand turn at the bottom of the first section and continue down the gully. This section has several lines with rock drops and ramps similar to the upper section.

Yes, I was on the Moots Mooto-XZ 29er. Left the Mojo at home. The big wheels are fun on the ledges, but on some of the rougher terrain the extra suspension of the Mojo would have been nice. I was there from around 11AM to 3PM. Got wore out doing laps up and down Skull, Freeride and Rattlesnake.

I was using the GoPro Hero video camera, refer to http://www.gramslightbikes.com/2008/...blo-south.html for the start of my review on the camera.

I did see the new addition of the Hooters Canyon as I was riding along, it was the end of the day and I was getting tired, else I would have turned around and tried it.

Is this area free or is it a state park?

It is a State Park. Either get a Parks pass $60 (good for 12 months) or pay the daily fee of $6. You can park outside the park and bike in but there has been a slew of break ins so I recommend parking inside the park.

    Pueblo snow report.

The Pueblo South Shore trails received about 2 inches of snow in the latest storm. Most the snow has now melted. The trails are currently slightly wet however should dry out quickly.

I expect conditions should be ridable by late Thursday.

I find Pueblo as a fun 1 day affair. Super fun to cover everything in a day and some trails multiple times. Interesting setup with everything so tightly contained. Good for cross country and getting some tech time in too. Be neat to have it as a back yard sort thing. Great vid.

I live in the Springs so it is only a 45 minute drive, which is tolerable.
