Still closed. Hall or Heil from Lefthand would still be ok.
Take the long cut, we'll get there eventually.

Dave, the ride to Georgia Boys took about 20 minutes and the Jambalaya was outstanding.

Has anyone ridden heil recently? Considering an early morning ride there on Monday... Lots of mud or rideable mud?

    Thanks!

What part of closed did you find hard to understand? Was it the closed until further notice part?

LH OHV. Maybe I'll go fire off some guns, drink some beers and ride bikes tomorrow.

I love how the county has to dictate common sense!.

That said, the rest of the county is ruined by people who think that it's okay to ride in 6 inches of mud and can skirt the trails

It all recovers IMO so why bother? Let the badasses gum up their drive train as punishment. More money for the bikeshops.

We had it for the first time tonight. My take...BBQ was very good, but not crazy about their sauces. The mild was pretty good, but more peppery. I'm more of a sweeter sauce fan, but I'd go back. Busy place.

Good to know. I'd heard they got their start serving food @ Lefthand and I've been anxious to make the trip. There's also that Comida place just opened in Prospect, but frankly Prospect seems so sketchy...

Icegeek - a buddy of mine rode Left Hand OHV today. Said it was snowy up top but the st was good. As long as its not super muddy at Left Hand, its almost always the first thing riding around here.

Georgia Boys = the real deal in Southern Style BBQ

Sweet sauces are KC and (some) TX style. Southern has a range of styles that none of which are really sweet, but are usually tangy due to being vinegar based. I lived in Southeastern NC for ten years and traveled all over the Carolinas and Georgia when out there and nobody East of the Mississippi I've tried comes even close to original compared to Georgia Boys.

The owners Matt and Nicholas are cool people and cyclists too, bonus.

Ah, the annual spring Nedeland freak out session. Eldora stills sucks and the trails are still snowed in?

Picture rock was open as of saturday 3-10-12. I rode from town up antelope to nelson ( too muddy), down through the rock garden and up picture rock to the tree line in the AM before I had to pack to get back home.

I've only ridden down from Heil on picture rock so my brother and I headed up late sunday afternoon. We rode all the way up and did a Wild Turkey loop then back down. The trail was MUCH more dry 18 hrs later. (2) Ice/mud spots but 98% perfect! Its my new favorite loop on the front range!

CAUTION! I thought I saw an adult cat late November 2011 bounding up the hill side after leaving the south side of Heil at dusk. The pictures released by the DOW of a collared Mom cat and 4 kittens feeding on an Elk carcus right before christmas confirmed it as a cat. We came across one of the kitties coming down picture rock at Dusk last sunday evening, just out of the tree line. They've grown! I'd say 60-70#'s. It was crossing the trail and my brother came w/in 15 yrds of contact. It bounded 30 yards up the hill side, stopped, shook its body, wagged its tail and licked its lips....we kept on riding.

My first cat sighting since moving out here 8 years ago.

A buddy of mine saw the territory alpha male up by the Heil lookout about a month ago. Fortunately, he was able to scare of the cat by raising his bike above his head, kicking rocks, yelling, etc. Alpha male is estimated to be app 160-180lb. He's got a green tag on his ear, but has successfully shed his collar. Area DOW is tracking this cat right now to recollar him...

Yeah, I don't mind the little Kitties..... Its Mom & Pop I'm a bit freaked about. My buddies had a run it similiar to yours at centenial cone about 3-4 years ago. The cat stopped chasing the mule deer doe and started walking towards them. 2 guys with 2 bikes lifted in he air with a bunch of noise worked.

Kind of un-nerving there will be 6 full size cats walking around the Heil area in the future. I love late afternoon-dusk rides but may be changing that up in the future....night rides are DEFINATELY OUT! Hopefully competition drives a few off but Based on the mullie population I don't see that happening anytime soon.

Well, playing the company line, night rides at Hall/Heil should be out cause it's not legal.

That said, I think as long as you night ride in a group or at lease a couple riders you should be ok. I've never had a problem. Also, for what it's worth, the alpha's territory goes from Hwy36/Johnny Park all the way to Coal Creek Canyon. He stays mostly east of the peak to peak but will get up to the divide sometimes as well.

My personal philosophy on cats is to be educated of their terrain and behavior and know what to do should you encounter one. No use living in fear.
