National Trails Day Sat June 2 at Heil Ranch

Come on out to help finish off the new Wild Turkey trail at Heil Valley Ranch. Don't know if we'll get it done, but we will sure try. We'll be meeting up at Heil at 8am sharp and will work until lunchtime. Bring good boots, gloves, and a good attitude and get ready to build some trail.

More info and registration at the BMA website:

    http://boa-mtb.org/events/?id=77

We will gather to ride after everyone has had lunch. For those willing, we'll drive up the canyon to do some riding around Jamestown.

Hope to see many of you out there!

There is still room for more folks to sign up. Bagels and snackies for breakfast will be provided as well as a real lunch (probably some beer, too).

This is a good opportunity to have firsthand experience shaping a new trail on Boulder County open space. Sending letters and talking on internet message boards is great for advocacy, but throwing a pick into the ground is the real deal way to influence the shape of a trail.

    No can do...

Unfortunately, ssperl and I have a climbing lesson that day, otherwise we'd be there for sure for the trail building and the ride.

BTW - I'll be swinging by your shop tonight for my Fat Chance goody bag.

I signed up earlier this week and I'm excited to get dirty!

My opinion is that anyone resident that *****es about the lack of singletrack close to Boulder (all of us) should at the minimum put in one day of work a year.

Website registration is back up and running

My thanks to all of you for pointing out the problems with the BMA website. Indra's Net, our ISP, did an 'upgrade' and blew us out of the water.

The upgrade is backed out and we are fine again.

Want to visualize the Wild Turkey Trail and how volunteers are amking a difference?

Come join us and get this trail done! After all, once this trail is done, the county will begin construction on the Lyons Connector Trail!

That looks awesome Mike. I like the little added detour of descending another switchback into the valley. What do you think the final time frame will be?

Last time I asked, I was told the beginning of July for completion of the Wild Turkey. Then BCPOS crews start on the Lyons Connector.

It should be known that the County is loosening up a bit with the type of trail they are allowing to be built. Yes, there are sections of this trail that I, a mountain biker and not a Professional Trail Builder, just don't understand. But I've walked the completed north section of this trail and I am VERY pleased with the tightness of the trail alignment.

My friends that are pros are telling me that the current crew is making pretty good lemonade out of the lemons they have to work with. Definitely cause for optimism.

Word to the wise.... DO NOT go ride this trail before it's done. Don't screw up a good trend we've taken 15 years to create. It's legal to stash the bike and go walk it, but riding it before it's done is not a good idea.

Come out and build it so we can ride this trail!

prolly a no-no slacker....they have certain ratios they have to keep I do believe, supervisor to supervisees. Looks like I'm patrolling tomorrow at west mag in the AM, come do that and be an unofficial trail ambassador....
The more out of shape you are, the steeper the hill looks.

LOTS of people turned out. I did not do an official survey, but I got the impression that the majority of trail workers (and crew leaders) were bike folk. It was a good showing of support from the mountain biking and trail using community.

The trail is coming along quite nicely. Once again, the rule was 2' not 4'. We were even able to err on the narrow side frequently. We'll see how it turns out, though, after Boulder County runs sweep on our work. After the work was wrapped up, we hiked back quite a ways on what had been created and I gotta say, it's going to be a good trail. Probably the most narrow and rocky County trail I've seen. Ever. We'll lobby hard and harp on people to keep it that way.

There's a couple of pics on the blog here.

It was ok... we got free food and tee shirt and played in the dirt for a few hours.

I got a pic of a Bear, photoshop might be able to help(?). It was a cub, we didn't see the momma bear.

Ok, now I'm super bummed. I'd love to see a bear in the wilds, in Colorado.
Take the long cut, we'll get there eventually.
