    Heil before the wind

I haven't been up there since late last year. Beautiful day, lots of happy riders. When asked the trail conditions they all shouted out "No Mud!". Wild Turkey too? "No Mud!"

The wind hadn't picked up yet. On the day home it had and it looked like a Dust Bowl pic from the '30s looking towards the foothills. No pic of that, all you have to do is look out your window.

I saw lots of single riders, guys meeting friends they haven't seen for awhile, and two teams of four that were real intent on their training ride. One lady came through in full "Domestique" mode. Water and food for four. edit: upon further review, maybe that was a guy.

Heil is an ongoing project. Orange flags and machinery everywhere. Sometimes I'd see a perfectly good section of trail with a line of flags next to it seemingly delineating a more sustainable line. Heck, the old line looks good to me!

In Superior Liquors on the way home, a stout I'd never tried before was recommended. Just finished one---sort of like drinking desert, it's so rich and sweet. Good stuff!

We must have been out there around the same time, saw the group of 4 in red/black coming down when we were headed up. Took my wife out on her old Trek 3400 for her first "single track experience" I think we'll be buying her a new bike soon... Lemme know if you're looking to get out and want a partner. I'm new to the MTB scene but have a long background in BMX and feel very comfortable pushing it on intermediates. Haven't tried anything harder yet.

    That's a lotta spandex!
Gone are the days we stopped to decide,
    Where we should go,
    We just ride...

    Coincidence

Yesterday rode Heil to the end of Picture Rock and back. Lots of people out.
Stopped on the way home to get some brew for the Buff game
and picked up the same Nitro Milk Stout. Good choice.

Whenever I take pics of riders I'm talking to I say "just check the Front Range Forum, maybe a pic of you will show up" I get blank looks. MTBR? Maybe slight recognition. I've only met one person ever (it was on Green Mountain years ago) who actually had an mtbr username.

So, yeah, I'm hoping somebody here recognizes themselves from one of my pics but...

Do you ride a bike or live through everyone else's fun?

Seeing hairless chicks is not a bad thing. You could have avoided the hairless dudes, though.

I was surprised at the ratio of nice looking full suspension bikes to hardtails, like 9 to 1. And the hammering attitudes of nearly all the riders I met, either them ascending or coming back down.

Lauren was real happy to see me. Nicole not so much, she was real intent on keeping with #1 in that group. #4 in that group was missing too many shifts to keep up.

Did you ever think that just maybe this was crossing her mind?

Glad you had a great time out there, but from a female rider's perspective I would be creeped out if some random dude was in the trees taking photos of me climbing and posting them on mtbr.

Fair enough. From the looks of all the smiles I was getting I wonder how many of the riders I took pics of were creeped out, females included? I'm an equal opportunity photographer, what can I say?

Besides, I'm no "random dude", I'm xcguy!
