People, I'm in a Helmet mood

This is from their very first album "Strap It On". I've eased you into hearing them at their earliest. Here's what one reviewer had to say

"Imagine being crushed by a bunch of bricks. Imagine slamming headfirst into solid concrete. All while either of these events are happening, imagine you are also wading through a thick river of mud at the same time. Better yet, listen to Helmet's debut because it's the audio equivalent of having all that happen to you. It's a brutal, unpleasant experience; it's one that doesn't try to paint a pretty picture or have any polish from the production studio. But at the end of the day, that's exactly what makes Strap It On such a powerful gem of an album. It bridged alternative rock and metal, alternative metal with hardcore punk, and brought in some noise rock to tie it all together. It's still an uncompromising experience to this day and hasn't lost its punch over the years"

    Past is Prologue

This is the first Tycho album. He said it took him five years to do this album as he was using really primitive tools in the studio to splice it together.

He upgraded his gear to digital stuff (I'm summarizing here) and his subsequent albums took a lot less time.

I've linked you to other Tycho but not this full album. It's helping me work today

    About Hotline TNT

I was cruising Audio Tree and came across a vid of these guys playing "Trinity" in a ski shop (it's true) but I figured that was a little raw to put here. So I put up the vid above

Upon further review, here they are in that ski shop. Check out the manic drummer. And if you're at home, turn it up to 10

    What is love?

I might be repeating myself here, maybe not, even I can't find what I've put up on this thread. That said...

As I've said before, I've been around dance all of my adult life. Me and my girlfriends dancing, me and my ex dancing, I'm comfortable watching and being around people dancing

The dude in this video on the rooftop was an IT guy in Germany who got sick of sitting at his desk all day and decided to start working out and wound up inventing his own style of dancing. New found fitness, new career...

The ladies in this vid, well, I've seen them in many of KM Music's videos. I've said this before...it's not the dancers, it's the dance

    And another one

I think of all that went into these vids. First, the dancers and their videographers had to actually get the clips that KM could use. Then he and his crew had to find these clips and put them together in the video here

The transitions from dancer to dancer, the flow, it's a pleasure to watch on many levels

    Into The Blue

Speaking of dancing: I'm reading "The Journals of Lewis and Clark" edited by John Bakeless (1964). You don't get any tougher than the men accompanying L and C on their "voyage of discovery" up the Missouri, over the Rockies and down the Columbia.

At night, after fighting off grizzlies, dragging their boats up treacherous rapids, hunting for every piece of food they would eat that night, Cruzat would get out his fiddle and the men would dance for an hour.

At Indian villages the Indians would dance for hours at night after smoking the peace pipe with L & C and crew, then the men would dance for the Indians with Cruzat on the fiddle. Just sayin'...

I had business up north today

North as in Broomfield. I got done about two hours ago and drove straight down Wadsworth from Midway to Chatfield down here...no tunes on in the car, lots of red lights and rush hour traffic but with this tune in my head it was OK

I've put this up here before but it deserves a revisit. Different graphics on this upload

Gotta admit it puts a new twist on slap. Also note the sock, it's there to slightly mute the strings. I've also seen wrist /sweat bands used.

Wow, back to my desk after 9 days on the road

I've got months of processing to come on the photography I did out in Utah. I needed something non-demanding to listen to as I started this project, I just listened to Stellardrone's "Light Years" album (which I've already put up here) and now I'm listening to his "Echoes" album

Pressing on ahead with my edits

Actually,I have enough to last me till Christmas

I hesitated putting up this one before because of the image, hoping not to offend anyone but to me it's just a pic of a model in a bikini, if it offends anyone here let me know and I can take it down

That said, this is two hours of a really steady beat. Here goes

Somehow on the 'Tube I clicked on a Dreamstate Logic vid that led to more of his

and I picked this one to put up here. I've listened to a few Space Ambient creators and they're all different, this guy included

I was looking for the mix I put up here that had this track on it

but couldn't find it. So I went to the source and here's is that track

So where, you ask, did Buckethead get his start

I typed in "Early Buckethead" and this came up. It's like he was born Buckethead with fully formed guitar chops

    And there's more Buckethead

Just sit back, crank up the volume, and picture you're at this club with The Deli Creeps in 1996. That's Maximum Bob on the vocals

This is a really quality bootleg

Ever since I built my new computer

the search algorithms on Y'Toob have directed me towards Buckethead bootlegs

    which is a good thing

The ending is kind of abrupt but the guy recording this had equipment problems, the rest of this set can be found elsewhere on the Toob

I'm still working on images frommy Utah trip in April

This track is one in a series that's continually playing over on the 'Toob. I guess maybe if you open this up over there you'll be able to hear all the great stuff I've been listening to for the past hour

One of the comments for this track is "Esta Deep House es perfecta para viajar" and I couldn't agree more

Primus...man those albums bring back a ton of great memories!! Perfect music for a music nerd in the early 90's....saw them on Seas of Cheese and Pork Soda tours...

on the Cheese tour, the mosh pit for Jerry - when it came to that part in the middle - was one of the craziest I have ever been in...absolute madness, chaos and fun!!!

but I lied. I just watched a vid from Storror of a behind-the-scenes shoot of them doing bunch of impossible stuff

I am in awe of their abilities to do this but I also am impressed with their video capabilities. They really know how to cover all the angles of any stunt. Watch the guys with the cameras (phones actually) as they follow the guy doing the stunt

I've been finding two and three hour mixes to work to. This one is so long I even took a nap in the middle of it and it's still playing

Japanese Trance is sort of a state of mind, I just play it quietly in the background

    Mid-2000s Minneapolis band

Wm Anderson (Hotline TNT) says this is a group he grew up listening to while he was getting into music. He put this CD up on the 'Tube as well as their second one to make sure they weren't "lost to the sands of time"

    Two from Rush

Again, I'm cruising the 'Tube and come across a channel of "college students listening to Rush for the first time"

The first one I watched was "Subdivisions"

Maybe you know this track, maybe it's the first time for you but you need to listen to it at full volume

    And

    "Red Barchetta"

These two aren't not necessarily my favorite Rush tracks because there is probably100 Rush tracks that are my favorite

Again, full volume. I read a comment that said he listened to each Rush track three times, once for each instrument

Here's the second album from that Minneapolis group

    Wm Anderson sez:

Awesome Minneapolis group from the mid 2000s... Without Cowboy Curtis there would be no TNT (nor any of my previous bands). From how I experienced it as a small town Wisconsin kid, these dudes existed in the same universe as Halloween Alaska, 12Rods, Love-Cars and that ilk. But something about CC's songwriting really scratched an itch for me and informed all the songwriting I did when I started making bands.

Anyway this was not available anywhere online that I could find so I had to upload it... underrated bit of Minneapolis rock history. Thirtyfive Summers came out in 2006, I'm gonna upload their debut in a minute too. Hope you folks like it.

    Another Saturday at my desk

Stuff is piling up, everything takes forever...OK, need something to work to

So I'm cruising the 'Tube and realize I've never put up any Van Halen here. This is, after all, a Guitar Player thread

I looked for something that maybe you haven't heard or maybe haven't listened to in a looooong time and that includes me

One of the comments was "My neighbor threw a rock through my window when I was playing this song...so he could hear it better"

Yup, '70s rock. Michael Schenker on guitar. The great rock guitarists have their own tone...how they do that I don't know, I don't play guitar

But just listen to Schenker's tone here. I had UFO CD's back in the day but I never heard this one

Been building a new computer all day

In photography it's called GAS (Gear Acquisition Syndrome). Here it might be called "Upgradeitis". For computers it's "NFS"--Need For Speed. I swore I was going to keep my wallet in my pocket during Black Friday but...well, I took the new parts I bought (!) into a case today.

Even when it's straightforward it's a combination PITA/walking on eggshells wondering what's going to go wrong. Well, too many to mention here but I'm typing this on the new rig.

When I finally got it up and running (that's the short version) Alex H came to my rescue

Well heck, here's another guitarist for you

As good as Reb Beach was, here you can see a difference in speed. Beach frets mostly with just three fingers, Paul Gilbert always frets with four. Like Buckethead, who Gilbert taught for a year, and all other super fast players

So I'm fine tuning my new computer build today

while looking over my shoulder at all the real work I've pushed aside to do this...I'm working but...I gotta get back to work, ya know?

Anyway, I'm mixing up Alex H with other stuff, like this (Master of Puppets, with lyrics, first time I've seen the lyrics)

This one's pretty good to work to

Again, just stumbled across this while finishing up some editing on a Utah folder from last September. It was 90 degrees as I was taking those pics

    Pantera

Been wanting to put up some Dimebag Darrell for awhile now but didn't know where to start

So, why not with "Walk" more to follow

    OK, another Pantera

No, I can't eat a steady diet of this stuff now but, man this takes me back to my headbangin' youth

One of the comments was "the 911 operator asked me how I broke my neck, I played him the breakdown at 3:51 and now his neck is broken"

    OK, back to Alex H

    Johnny Winter

Another guitarist I could put up a lot of tracks to introduce you to his playing but have to start somewhere

This was back in the day before effects played a part in a player's tone. JW played straight through his amp, what you hear is as clean as it gets

    Pantera Five Minutes Alone

Backstory: the singer, Phil Anselmo, allegedly got off stage and kicked some kids azz in the crowd. A lawsuit ensued. The dad said "I'd like to have five minutes alone with that guy". The band's manager said "uh uh, I don't think so". So Phil wrote this song

Basically, I'm here for Dimebag's guitar. Feel free to sing along
