Who are you? - and how did you jack Jim's handle? It was rumored that his handle was retired after he was attacked and dragged into the brush by that prairie dog near Rocky Flats.

    nice

good to hear that you are back into the game. Did you see me the other day on Baseline. I honked at you but I could see that the sun was blinding you... so probably just heard noise. If you are riding later... (3:30 ish) I'd like to join up with you. But you usually ride in the day time, so have a good ride.

hehe, sometimes I honk at ppl and forget that you can't see through my windows from the outside. Although I will admit that it was mildy comical to see you looking around to see where it was coming from. The jetta doesn't have racks on it right now (on the gti), but it's pretty noticable as it sits a bit lower and still no rear bumper.

Well, some of the original equipment on my car was reaching the end of it's functional life, so I took it down for some rebuilding. All new poly bushings (replacing the soft rubber) throughout the suspension. All new suspension, including all mountings and steering equipment (joints/rods/ends etc..), larger diameter brakes from a 98 jetta, rebuilt the calipers all way round, bigger master, stainless lines, KW 60/40 sport kit (matched springs, shocks, struts), and painted some of the stuff, plus lots of little things I've blocked out of my mind by now.

part of what I had to do.

the rotor sat in the snow for two days... makes everything else look hawt, huh.

a finished control arm... one of the pieces I had to repaint... well, bicycle019 painted this one.

I also have a bigger motor ready to go in and replace this tired one, but that'll have to wait until summer. I've blasted my current tires 'playing' with the new setup and I have mtb wheels to buy, so I'm going to be poor for a while.

As for riding, I'd love to get down your way for a day in the 'park soon or maybe some xcish stuff.

What's the transplant going to be? I'm on the lookout for a 2.0 16V for my VW Caddy (as well as looking for wheels, seats, front clip, coilovers, etc, etc).
By the way, it says "BALLS" on yor face

Well, as of now I have a 2.0 16v from a Passat with a full Motronic swap. The motor has been sitting at RS motorsports for a while, but I'm finally going to have time to pick it up tomorrow (fingers crossed). I'm not looking forward to getting it because I want to work on it... because it's just going to sit for a while. I just need to get it, it's been there for too long. Besides, I've been doing a lot of thinking about a bigger swap instead, one with a couple more pistons. I may end up putting the whole swap up for sale... for what i have into the motor alone. The motor has a 150-155 reading on all cylinders and is somewhere in the 130k mileage range. and...I started it before it was pulled.

I have a 1.8 16v right now, but the bottom end is getting tired.

BTW, Rich... Alex just turned me on to a band and I thought you would dig em. You may even have some of their stuff, but i thought I'd throw it out there... LCD Soundsystem

Maybe I could meet up with you on your way to work or something and get you a copy of it and some other cool stuff that I should share.

If you're thinking about going bigger let me know I'm very interested in the 2.0 16v.

Since you've been out for a while, it's been a long time since I've gotten a VW and bike update. I noticed something in this thread about a GTI? And whatever happened to the Giant? Still own the green macheen?

Well, the Giant and the GTI are related... sorta. I sold the Giant and picked up a '91 8v GTI that needed a tranny, with the $ from the frame. Swapped in a tranny and it's been a great second car that is faster than the jetta and gets better mileage. ??? The GTI is supposed to be getting some Passat suspension (stiffer springs and a 2" lift! FREEBIE) cause it pretty much handles all sport-type duties now. It's pretty commando styled. I'd snap a pic, but someone decided they needed my cam more than me. I think its sort of funny though... the chances of the cam working for someone else who doesn't know how to hit it just right, are slim to none.

Yes on the green macheen. I rocked it on the local loops with some KRads today. Those tires are pretty fun/fast on the local dirt/road/dirt/road kinda trails. I might try them on something a bit more tech tomorrow.

Nice. I just unloaded my 91 Jetta and the 5 BBS RM's for my move back east. Did you not have a Vanagon?

Yeah, I did have a vanagon, but got tired of right leg cramps while driving uphill. I'd like to have another, but it would have to have a WRX swap.

I've got a set of RMs out on the patio that I've wanted to buy lips for, but can't justify the resto expense on them. I could buy new, lighter and stronger for less.

I went down to RS to see if I could have a few more days of storage on the motor... found out that the 2liter that I bought only has ~80k, so I'm a bit more motivated to swap it since it's so fresh.

Off to ride before/in the rain.

Here's a recent pic of the car...
