    2009 Goals

Well the new year is quickly approaching and with it comes the time to set some goals to shoot for! What are some of your cycling goals? Any new purchases you're looking forward to?

As for myself...I just started biking this past summer and I hit all the main areas here in the FR but I'm looking to get out to some more areas next. Monarch, Moab, more of the Fruita/GJ area, and explore the Buffalo Creek area as well. As for skills, just gotta get keep getting stronger and wanna be able to trackstand by the end of winter. And lastly, there are quite a few parts that I wanna get to upgrade (with all of them mainly being bought to build up a nice FS frame in 2010, but for now they'll go on my Felt hardtail). Luckily Santa came early this year and brought a new Race Face Deus XC handlebar and stem, a Fizik saddle, ergon grips, and new gloves. So throughout the year I'm looking at getting a set of x9 shifters and rear derailleur, a nice wheelset, and possibly a new fork to replace the Dart 1.

    Well that's a book and a half...who's next?!

No purchases for me other than to replace broken parts as I just got myself an early Christmas present in the form of a shiny new Intense M6 to go with my Wife's shiny new Intense Socom.

My goal is to try and use the M6 somewhat towards it's capabilities in next year's race season. (I will likely fail terribly in this goal but I guarantee it will be fun trying! )

    here here! Heal up quick!

Ride my bikes, ride with old friends and meet new ones. Ride trails I haven't ridden, and ride trails I have.

Push myself to be a better rider both uphill and downhill.

I'm looking to get a new ride this year but it really depends on my SO's employment.
    Down is the new up.

    Goals:
    1. Stay fit, healthy, and strong.
    2. Stay OUT of the hospital (see item #1).
    3. Jump something larger than what I jumped last summer on my DH bike (do not see item #2).
    4. Ride something truly and completely super gnarly and WAY out in the wilderness, preferably above treeline.

Purchases (the dream list, not necessarily gonna happen):
    1. Yeti ARC-X cyclocross bike (possibly set up SS or at least single ring up front, with fenders and mustache bars for commuting and general whatnottery)
    2. Yeti 303 R-DH (just because I can and it'll be fun as crap... what can I say I bleed turquoise!)
    3. Beer. And lots of it.
    4. Some more sweet-ass-sweet camping gear for which to take the trips of biking nature.
The older I get, the faster I was.

    Punch it, Chewie.

    2009 goal.

Finally ride the Kokopelli trail. I have been wanting to do it for a long time but something always gets in the way. I was all set to do it last spring but had to cancel at the last minute because of logistical problems.
I'm gonna do it this year!

I'd like to have a chain on my DH bike.

Actually make it to some races next year, anything at Angelfire being a priority.

Race more CX in the fall

Bike commute 5 days a week

Get out to California for some riding with old friends

    Start DJing again

    New Whips:
Pulled the trigger on a Session88DH yesterday
Figure out a way to afford a Remedy 8 or 9, and put the 575 out to pasture.

Bikerpelli sports runs a great gig for the Kokopelli trip. $425 gets all your gear from Fruita to Moab with three night of camping( incredible spots), food, Boulder beer, and all the riding you can dish out in between. There are some hardcore guys and gals to so underestimaters and everything in between, all you need on the trail is your bike, pack and will to make it to the LaSals. I logged 190 miles in three days (trail is 142), 18000 feet climbing 40% single, 60% remote and beautiful jeep road, killer scenery all the way, wildflower infused. . Sag stops for lunch also. Sign up is on the 7th of January and the trip fills in about half an hour, testament to the quality of this true mountain bike experience run by a Boulder local guy. The 2 trips are the first and second weekend in May. Good luck.

    buy

1)One of my goals is to make no big purchases and just be content with things as they are.
    2) Race a bunch like always
    3) Actually have fun in 2009 unlike 2008.
    4) Do first solo 24.

So Many Trails So Little Time

A BETTER BIKE. Broke my Fisher Crack last spring. Drove over my other bike while starting the truck at Bear’s Ears. Now I’m riding a sun faded piece a crap frame that was just left outside to rust !

Ride more miles. 2061mi. so far this year. Next year’s goal is 3000mi. Still amazes me how some can ride the GDR in just a few weeks.

Explore more of Colorado’s remote areas.

More road trips if gas prices remain low.

A bob trip or a mtb camping trip (self supported)

Figure out a way to avoid the crowds and bighting gnats in the Grand Valley next spring!

    Ride all winter.

Yeah. certainly good stuff. Although a little less crashing would be okay (replacing gloves gets expensive).. and it would be nice to see if it's actually possible for Zilla to ever fall off his bike.

2008 was definitely a year of progression.. hoping for more of the same in '09.

And the new "slacker" dropouts for the Uzzi will be my first investment for the new year.

-Riding Monarch Crest in less than 6 hours total time
    - finishing strong on the Rainbow Trail (see above)
    - continue to increase strength, stamina
    - riding a 24HOM lap in less than 2 hours
    - have MORE fun in 2009
    - ride to work more (only drove 3 days in summer)
    - more riding with more friends
and if the markets shine upon me........

    - build up on a new frame; Yeti ASR-SL or Superlight or Rip 9!!
    - keep said bike to 26 lbs ( making my goals much more attainable!)
    - Or say *&^% it- I'll just buy one
If you don't stop whining- I'll call the whaaaa-mbulance!

2008 was all about going backwards for me. I'd like to get through '09 uninjured.

I wasn't racing this season, so I just rode a bunch of days at Keystone w/out a chain. It was wicked fun so I kept doing it.

But I'm psyched to pedal a new DH bike again next summer and race a few.

So is that why we never saw you at the lifts this year? Thought maybe you had fully converted to rigid SS 29'ers with H-bars.

I'll be "double-fisted" cheering this year! Training has already started...for the off camber, double 22 oz balance act while imbibing and uttering forest shaking visceral yells! Oh yea, and some riding also. I've got my sight set on a couple of faster guys ahead of me that are going down this year! My "new to me" Intense Tazer 4x is ready to roll some good times!

    1. Find a riding partner I can't keep up with (pretty much anybody)
    2. Discover all the cool trails in the area.
    3. Ride like freaking crazy.
    4. Get fast enough and fit enough to beat said riding partner.

There was a great pic of him from Snowmass where he's fully tabled, mostly off the bike and heading FOR the waterfall. I should search for that one.

My goals sound a lot like SylentK's, but with some climbing speed.

Yeah, I saw that one in person. What a great series of crashes that was. Phacking Josh....

Nickle has a great vid of him in headbutting contest with a huge rock at Palmer. The rock won the first round, Josh rope-a-doped it in the second.

...and I'm still waiting for my check. It's in the mail, right Ken? I def. want to hit Palmer and Pueblo a few times this winter.

I'm going to ride my bike a lot in '09. Getting the "slacker" drop outs for my Uzzi too, and the 6" 30 lb trail bike I wanted to have last year... probably a used Remedy w/ a Lyric Solo Air. I'm going to take lots of 3 day weekends. I'm going to weigh under 200 lbs and get stronger.

Under five hours for the Firecracker 50.

One good mountain bike road trip to somewhere I've never been.

Finish White River National Forest travel management plan comments before the deadline.
