    Zing! Mad clydesdale strikes again!

Haha, went out to clean the bike up from my ride yesterday and I apparently tore my rear derailleur apart. Upgrade time! Suggestions for best durability/price ratio? (this is soon to be my mudbike/grocery getter so I'm not looking to go gucci). I'm thinking LX...

    Good oportunity to go SS!

Try singlespeed you may like it, and you'll never break another derailler. For a mud bike or grocery getter it's ideal. LX should be a good option if you need the gears, or maybe lower end Sram.

Yeah, I'm really intrigued by the singlespeed notion. Since I'd like to keep this one as a general purpose backup in addition to grocery/mud duties, I think I'm going to stick with multiple gears. Since this isn't the nicest bike to begin with ('02 raleigh m50) I realized that LX is probably even a little more than is necessary. I'm going to slap on a deore m510. Shouldn't cost much, should be a big step up from the crappy acera.

...and I know what you mean. The bike came with a jacked bolt-on disc tab. I showed it to the Marin guys at Sea Otter, emailed them pictures of it, and it took forever to get them to send me a good one -- and they're only half a bay away from me!

    Let's try this picture instead:
