    Yakima rack warning

All Raptor rack owners, yesterday after our ride I was loading my sons bike up onto the roof and started twisting the red knob to secure the bike, then the knob broke off and separated from the rack falling onto my roof (glad I own an Element to shove it inside). The f'd up part is this is the second time this has happened, last year I loaded my sons bike and my brand new bike, then headed to our riding spot approx 40 minutes away, when we got there I started to loosen my bike and the same knob came off in my hand and the rack was completely loose.

I had a tough time finding the replacement parts cause Yakima doesn't sell them, I think I finally found them on Amazon, good thing I was thinking ahead and bought two last year

I was pretty pissed driving that far on a 70 mph hwy to find my rack broke and my new bike is only held on by the two snowboard straps, so the bar couldn't drop holding my bike with very little clamping pressure.

I wouldn't replace it, I'd get a new roof carrier. Clamping onto the frame is just not a great idea in the first place. Cut your losses on that baby and move on.

I like Yakima a lot, but I think their wheels on roof rack attachments are not great. I had a HighRoller and found out the ratchet that holds the whole bike on is easily stripped, there is no way to tell except when there is a sudden drop of the rack (failed ratchet) and the bike comes loose. So that takes HighRollers off my list. That doesn't leave a lot from Yakima.

Of all the wheel on roof racks, I'd vote for the Rocky Mounts Brass knuckles. Second place would be the 1UpUSA roof racks (close second, almost a tie).
