    Why did the"worst.forum.evar" thread move?

What is the reason for moving the thread to the recycle bin?

    How about because it sucked?

That's just a guess, but yeah... that's it. It sucked.

Based on that reasoning the recycling bin would be full because most threads on MTBR suck.

Your opinion of most threads on MTBR doesn't matter.

    That thread got moved because...

Most of the people on this world just don't care about the fact that car-culture sucks. They would rather not think about it because it is a real problem that mankind faces. You know, they just bury their heads in the sand, like ostriches.

I could go on about why this thread sucks, but essentially it is because it is a meta-thread. Obviously I can't speak for everyone but I'm willing to go out on a limb and say that most people are not interested in threads about other threads. It is bad enough that we are on here discussing bikes and not riding them, but discussing threads??!!

I could not care less about your original question. The thread was moved. Get over it.

some people dont live in the city where everthing is close. i personally dont want to ride 7 miles to school when i can drive it in 10 minutes.
something more intresting to talk about would be why you hate cars. did you get attacked by one as a kid and develope a phobia of cars? or we could talk about why ostriches dont bury their heads in the sand.

    It's a self loathing thing.

I'd love to explain the dynamics of someone who "hates" cars but it would start a huge political debate cause its all about politics, trust me.

It comes from an elitest mindset that for some reason always comes from the ultra liberal left.

The administrators evidently didnt like the bad publicity.
Notice also they changed the subtitle of the forum from
'What car to buy' to 'bikeracks & ..... ' to whatever it is now.
I had suggested this change to francois - after relating to him that I thought
the previous subtitle really smelt of crass commercialism, ie, an appeal to get auto
manufacturers to advertise here. Its really a shame that youre not free to
criticize this website without getting the threads deleted.
There were a lot of good posts in that thread that spoke to why a forum about cars
is inappropriate on a mountain biking website; I'm not going to rehash any of it here,
but its obvious that adding this forum was a money making decision. It makes me
wonder whether these guys are really that passionate about bikes, or are just more
into making money. If they had left that thread up, they would have still had my respect
even though I disagreed with their decision. Now they dont even have that, and my
opinion of them now is in adding this forum they were just trolling for advertising
    dollars. Scumbags.

Nice le_buzz. Keep it up pardner.

The old thread was moved because it turned into a religous war with car haters preaching no cars in this society. That's fine. But take it to the politics board.

This forum was created because there exist hundreds of topics posted all over the forums discussing what rack to buy and what car to buy.

This is not a car site sure. But we as bikers would rather ask our cycling peers their opinion rather than car geeks on a car site who think bikes are motorcycles.

If you like the forum, hang out. If not leave. And don't turn this into an anti-car war, anti-suv war.

How about a snappy Honda Element animated advertisment Francois? Nothing wrong with that!

This forum makes perfect sense. The bike, car, rack combination is worthy of it's own discussion forum. Automobiles are a big part of mountain biking in my world.

You are a typically lazy american. Can't ride 7 miles to school. What a joke.

p.s.- I don't live in the city, I commute 25 miles to it by bicycle and/or bus. I drive my car to work maybe once a month.

p.s.s - If you can't acknowledge that car culture is a serious threat to the health of this planet (and thus humans), then I really must consider you ignorant. Sorry.

Yup, here in Portland(one of the biggest biking city in the USA) you have to drive at least 45 minutes to get on some good single track.

It's common sense at that point why a forum about the cars/racks to get us to those spots would be on a MTB forum. Elitest biking mindset aside, it's common sense to have a forum about the cars/racks that get us there.

I'm sorry but you're ignorant to think our soceity would even exist or sustain WITHOUT gas powered auto's.

Nothing wrong to try to cut as much out of it as you can(thats the mode I'm in, still drive to work but bike for most everything else, sorry I'm not as elite as you), but to say what you just said is on the borderline of lacking common sense.

    Correct.

Never said it would, could or should.
Besides, this isn't about the past, it's about our future. Which is currently somewhat bleak but not hopeless.
You got it right, we need to minimize our impact. Gas burning auto's are a huge part of that impact. That's all I am trying to say.

    Sad day.

Pulling the critical thread sucked just as much as the MTBR headhonchos deciding this place needed a outlet for car worship and the subsequent increased$$$ from big auto advst. (if that indeed is part of the plan?)

I know bandwidth is not free but come on guys be creative like dirtrag and find a way to do it without going down that slippery slope.

This is a place I go to escape the constant propaganda from big auto telling me I need a new dope ride to keep up with the nascar nation! I have a hard enough time keeping my bikes blingy.

It pisses me off when I click the new posts and have to wade through the Ford vs.Chevy banter going on in within it's own forum when I an here to be a member of the CYCLING community.

Enough rant, I do have a car, and burn gas to get to work and travel as public transportation in Montana like the rest the US. is lacking and even search here for info on racks and other car info but it was not shoved in my face and paraded about, I was happy with this info in the General forum and had no problem looking it up there.

I can walk into a supermarket and read one of the 500 car magazines to check out the latest and greatest marketing wonders. Where else can a Mtn.Biker get up to the minute info/advice support and a sholder to cry on.

And if the Car and Biker forum is not a good place to discuss the merits of autoculture perhaps a forum needs to set up just for that topic.

Yes, I realized later that I made a couple of strongly worded statements based on
assumptions that may or may not be correct. I even thought about editing those out
as they could get me in trouble with the site administrators, but I had already logged off
and didnt feel like going through the hassle. But if I end up seeing SUV ads on this
website in the future, I'll know that, as cynical as I may have sounded in my above post,
that my suspicions were valid. I can think of few things that would be more annoying
than coming onto a cycling website and seeing ads for the new 2007 Ford Explorer, or
whatever. That would suck, and I think most people here would agree with that, with
the exception of people like 29_Colossus and others who would prefer to
selfishly keep on buying new cars every year with no thought about how their actions
affect everybody else, ie, the global community (you know cars, pollution, global warming - yeah, the kind of maybe you think is too inconvenient to worry about)
Oops, here I go making strongly worded statements again, so I will leave this forum
    to the aforementioned folks.

No need to run off with the wild imaginations. If you want to know what I drive or how I feel about them, you can ask. Making it up the worst possible scenario in your mind as far as MY reality goes is not healthy. It is also a bad habit to get into.

Bring on the ads if need be. I make MY OWN DECISIONS and I am above being bothered by advertising. If I don't want to see it, I don't.

But you "left the forum", so you won't see this anyway. I bet you will be back though. If you can't ignore simple advertising that DOESN'T EVEN EXIST, then you can't ignore me. Please prove me wrong...

You know, it is mtbr.COM (as opposed to .org), which means to me that Francois and folks are trying to make some dough. So what if this site is about profit rather than principles. Some of may not like it, but that doesn't mean we should try to change it. After all, money talks and moosepoop walks, it is the american way.

Mtbr.com has to make money to pay the bills. That's one of the factors that influence us.

However, far more important to us is we have to create a resource that's unbiased and useful to cyclists. If we chase money without understanding cycling, we end up with nothing. That's pretty basic.

Mtbr is far more useful now than it was when I started it 10 years ago. If you don't believe that, you really should be somewhere else.

Right, I was referring to your previous post. I guess I get should just get used to any
kind of ad anywhere I go. I like this website (obviouosly) and was disappointed to
see it ppossibly become another billboard for cars. I thought that what might have been a
better direction to go would be something like 'Bike related car issues', instead of
'What car to buy', which was the original subtitle for this forum. It seems to be more
going in that direction, though, so I'm not that fired up about it anymore. Cars are a part
of getting to the trail for most of us, but focusing on cars as being somehow part
of the bicycling experience is not what I want to be a part of. Perhaps a forum
related to transpportation to trails, where people could talk not just about the
advantages of buying one car over another but also things like car pooling to
trailsites might have been more all encompassing.

no i dont ride my bike b/c its not pratical for me, its my choice. thats cool you ride 25 miles to where ever it is your going. i wish i could but theres no sidewalks and im not going to ride in the middle of a busy street. it pisses me off when other people do so im not going to either.
or maybe its b/c im so ignorant if i dont get there in less than 5 mins. ill forget the way, and someone else will eat the last dounut. well consider my ignorant im not going to sell my gas guzzling truck any time soon.
but i consider you one of those ignorant hippies who wont fart b/c it causes pollution, and wont buy beef b/c cows farts contain methane and pollute the air you inhale, but when you exhale you cause more pollution....and the bus you sometimes take only adds to the problem.
