Trailer Hitch Racks and Transporting Bikes in the Rain

does anyone have any inventive solutions for transporting your bikes a long way and dealing with rain. I worry that driving a an hour or two in the rain with the bikes on the back will be very hard on the bike and subject it to a lot of water it might not normally be subjected to.

i am asking because we are driving from Calgary to Bend in August and it is a two day drive. I am expecting it to be dry, but it would be nice if there was something out there I could do.

Glad i never thought about this in the severe downpours I experienced in the monsoon season. If anything, I ended up with a clean bike at the destination.

Hasn't been a problem for me with modern bikes and parts as long as I keep the chain lubricated.

Dude, Seriously? Two days of transporting bikes in August? If it was Feb, I got ya. Your concerns are a totally unwarranted. However, if these said bikes are super high end, brandy new, and you don't wanna show up with road trip manked out bikes (which gets big trail cred in my world) put a cover on them.

If you don't wanna spend the 70 bucks on a cover, strap up one of those crappy Wal-Mart blue tarps. It will look like a big flapping blue nut sack, but whatever....
