    Thule Insta-Gator and Security

    Hey all,

I am thinking of buying a Inta-gator for my truck, which will be parked in a busy/secure parking garage. I am a little concerned as to the security of my bike using the Insta-Gator. I have a locking tailgate, but how does the rack itself feel security wise.

Relying on the rack alone for security is a bad idea if it can be helped. I'd get a cable and padlock and run them through the frame and lock to the truck itself.

THere is no such thing as a secure bike rack. The most you can hope for is forcing the theives to have to work long, hard and loud to get to your bike.

I would suggest bolting a D-ring in your bed and getting a NY Fuggetaboudit chain with a padlock, then it is almost secure.

Thanks for the replies. I might go with the D-ring idea. I do not like the thought of leaving it in my truck, I may put it in my office if I can get permission.

take it to your office. I do. No one seems to care and security believe that i rode it in and give me kudos. lol We have a very secure building, Century City twin towers, designed by the same person who designed the WTC .
