Thoughts on Idea for Carrying Bike in Jeep with Top Off

Ok, I realize that there is a huge Jeep thread already out there, which I've read. I have a fairly specific idea, but need help in design/execution, or perhaps help with telling me why it won't work.

I like the idea of carrying the bike(s) inside the bed of the truck, inside the Jeep, etc. With the top off of my Jeep CJ-7 or Jeep CJ-6, and rear seat out, would it be possible to use a couple of "baskets" off of a North Shore, Recon, etc? Make a contraption that goes over the spare tire, perhaps even secured through a plate that's held by the lug nuts, or something, with the two baskets hanging off the side of the spare. The bike would be loaded rear tire first, toward the front seats, with the front of the bike resting in the baskets along side the spare? The contraption would have to account for the length of the bikes, so the baskets would have to be mounted fore/aft with that in mind, but is the general idea possible? Has anyone seen something like this? I always run with the bikini top on in the summer, back seat out, so draping the bike over the roll bar isn't a go with the bikini top in the way.

Anyhow, just throwing the idea out there.....

Instead of something going over the spare tire to carry the tire baskets, what if it was more of a hitch style tube coming out of the center of the spare tire, held in place by the lug nuts that hold on the spare, and the baskets are mounted to that. Also, with a hitch style attachment, you could plug in a certain amount of adjustment with several holes for pin placement. Hmmmm.....

Seems possible if you can fabricate.

As another option, I see these on Land Rovers sometimes:
