Swing down roof mount rack? does it exist?

Is there such a thing as a roof mounted bike carrier that swings down for on and off loading of the bicycles? I have a Ford Expedition and am looking into a way to carry my bike that is not inside of the truck, I do have a hitch and am considering a hitch mounted rack but I like the idea of putting the bike on the roof better but the height of the expedition makes this a bit difficult to lift the bike up and down.

so basically is there a rack that swings down off of the side to load and swings back up for transport? I did search a bit but came up with nothing.

    any info would be appreciated!

Mini has something like that. Not sure if it works on all roof bars or what, but it is the only one I have seen like it:

No direct experience and it was designed for long wheelbase bikes - tandems/recumbents. But they do what you're looking for.

Not enough posts for a web link, so google Tandem Topper or wander over to www*atoc*com

I think BMW also does a solution similar to this (which makes sense along with Mini). Another alternative is SmartCrossbars. They don't swing down, but installing / removing the bike attachment along with your bike does make it easier.

That made me chuckle. Seems like the Mini is the last car that would need a bicycle lift.

Thanks for the input fellas. looking at the options that are out there looks like I will be better off with a hitch mount style carrier
