    Sidearm for a VW?

I have a VW golf with a terrible rack system. It was made by Thule specifically for VW. It is a stand up rack, but the problem is that it does not fit a bike with a front tire bigger than a 2.3 unless you deflate it. I was wondering if anyone had a similar setup and a solution. I really like the Thule sidearm setup, but I would have to buy new mounts and everything for it to work. Any suggestions would be awesome.

Any accessory made to fit the Thule Rapid Aero racks will fit your rack.

I personally like the Thule Bigmouth racks.

    i got one... two

i just got my vw at halloween and purchased the roof rack.

when i got the sidearms it came with bogus parts and i had to call them back 3-4 times until i got it right....

    this is what you need:

    part I 919-0612-11 ALLEN BOLT M6X12 $0.50
    part J 853-0107-02 Square Nut $0.50

you also need the xadapt 1 kit to mount it to the vw bars or the thule aero bars....

here is a link to a guy who did it already and he helped me out too

acutally i have something he wrote up and i can email it to you if you want

I've got a 2001 Golf with OEM rack (Thule Rapid Aero) with thule bike rack. I searched around for the xadapt , bolts, etc. for the Thule aftermarket racks. I then realized that the Thule racks sold at the VW dealership come with all this hardware bundled in the box. So no more running around looking for the adaptor kits. Once you add in the cost of the extra kits, the aftermarket and dealership prices were very close in my part of the world.

I'm not sure if they have a Sidearm in the Dealership's accessory catalogue, but I know there's a fork-down model (velovice pro ?) that works great.
