Rooftop rack review - 1Up vs RockyMounts Tomahawk

Bought a 1Up rack with the fat tire spacer kit. While I appreciate the ease of loading and securing my bike there are some deal breakers.

First, I've hauled my 27.5 bike and my fat tire bike. Both are fine on the 1Up rack for most roads but on curvy roads the bikes sway too much for my comfort. On a recent trip with some moderate cross wind the front tire of my fat bike jumped the tray and was resting on the edge of the tray. I shouldn't have to be thinking about how I drive through the mountains so my bike doesn't sway making me worry about what might happen. Perhaps nothing would happen but that doesn't make me feel better.

I wanted a second rack for times when I want to take both bikes or a friend's bike. Went to a local rack shop and was sold a RockyMounts Tomahawk Fat Bike Ready Upright rack. With both racks I can haul with my fat tire or 27.5 bike. This rack loads fairly fast as well but, due to the design, is MUCH more sturdy meaning there is virtually no sway on corners or curves. I wanted to push the rack so I took some 40 & 45 mph curves at 60-65 mph and there was very little swaying.

I'm selling the 1Up rack and buying another RockyMounts Tommahawk. OBTW, the fat tire ready Tomahawk is available on Amazon for $111.97. Are you kidding me?

Negative on the shill. Just a rider sharing an experience to give back to the forum. Sorry about placement. Mods please move if you feel inclined.
