Every weekend I take my kids biking at a local park. I needed a quick way to secure their 16" and 12" bikes to my roof rack. The 12" bike is easy, as it sits on the wire basket.

For the 16" bike, I grabbed some old Thule wheel-holders I had gather dust in the garage, removed the bar-clamp mechanism, added some foam noodle pieces on the legs, and installed them inverted in my fork-mount tray.

Now I can secure the front wheel with this and the rear wheel with the wheel/tray strap. Add a bungee to hold tension and you're good to go.
