Protecting Bike on Rack from Winter Spray

I just purchased a fat bike and will be taking some trips. I have a big SUV but cannot fit the bike inside if we take the kids. I have a hitch rack that holds the bike on the top tube, not the tray version. Because of all the road spray the car creates I would want to protect the bike during winter driving up to the mountains. Here in Colorado, we use both sand, mag-chloride and maybe salt.

Has anyone purchased or made a cover or wrap for their bikes? My first thought is to wrap in a tarp but if not secured properly has a good chance of coming loose.

    Thanks!!!

I bought some Cuckoo Bike Covers that seem to work ok. You can just throw the in the washer, they say. I haven't used them in the winter. They are, essentially, an industrial type of lycra that zips around your bike.

I think they are a new company and their website seems to be up and down. But the product is decent.
