    Modifing a 1 1/4 reciever to a 2"

I have a Kuat bike rack with a 2" receiver. Im going to sell my current ride to buy a car (gas mileage). 99% of all hitches for cars are 1 1/4 receivers. I know they make a 2" to 1 1/4 reducer but it extends your rack out and makes if very bouncy. My question is has anyone cut off the 1 1/4 part of the receiver and made a 2" receiver to fit there rack? And does anyone have pictures. Thanks

They do make 1 1/4" to 2" adapters as well.

I would recommend this instead of destroying the weight capacity of your current hitch, or just get a new hitch installed that has the 2" receiver.

Unless of course all cautionary statements wont dissuade, then get a good welder to do it at least.

I just went through this with the Kuat NV. If you have this rack, don't hack that thing. Kuat will sell you the pieces to convert to.1.25. Just look on their site. Its not cheap at 189. They also offer a lower end replacement for the sherpa. You may want to email them if you don't see anything on their site for your rack since you didn't mention what model. They were quick with helping me out.
