    Mazda 3 hatch hitch/rack help

    I have a 2008 Mazda 3 hatch and I need a bike rack.

I really have no idea what to do and I keep getting confused. I know I want a hitch rack, but I don't know what to do about the hitch.

What size's are you guys running and what has worked best?

    Thanks in advance.

Do you have the hitch installed in the car already?

If not, the first thing you need is to install a hitch receiver, that's the metal bracket attached to the frame of your car. The receiver has a squared profile and that's where you attach the rack. The most common widths of the profile are 1.25 and 2 inches, but for your car there are no 2inch systems available because 1.25 is more than enough for your cars's towing rating.

You can get a receiver from etrailer.com or uhaul and I got my rack, a Thule Roadway, from REI.

    Did that help?

I suggest a Raxter, so you can open your hatch while the rack is still on the car.

True that, make sure the model you choose has a folding mechanism similar to this.

What have your experiences with Uhaul been like? I still need the hitch installed, and I've heard good and bad about Uhaul...

I watched this video a few times and then tossed it on. Nothing too complicated about it. The only thing the video didn't show was two the first two bolts had bumper Styrofoam that needed to be cut to fish the bolts through. Took me about an hour to do it alone. Two people would have made it easier.
