Making the Thule bike rack more permanent ?

Alright, this is what I mean, the Thule racks come with thumb screws/nuts to secure the racks to the bars. I was thinking of using regular nuts with lock washers. I was thinking it would be harder for it to come loose, and for other people to possibly remove it. Is it a bad idea?

There would be nothing wrong with that. It would accomplish both your goals, with the only con being inconvenience of installation/removal.

Go the extra step - use self locking nuts with flat washers. If you want to get real fancy replace all of the carriage bolts with stainless.

I was thinking of doing that as well. Nylock nuts is what I would get. I might do it just to make myself feel better.
