Help. Cant decide on my new roof rack.

    Hey all.

Picked up a new 2011 civic and would like to purchase a new rack to go along with my new car. Ive done a bit of research and have had prior experience with a yakima products, but am fielding different options this time.

I really like the new wispbars yakima is offering, but there seems to be a lack of info on them even when I searched this forum. Any opinions?

I have an '08 Civic sedan which is the same generation as the '11 and have a Yakima Q tower rack for it. No real complaints, it did what I wanted it to. The only "issue" was that the bar width they recommend leaves a lot of overhang. Enough that my sister gave herself a concussion when she hit her head on it so I cut them down.

Make sure your roof is clean before you out the rack on so it minimizes any marks under the feet and get a fairing. It'll help cut down on wind noise.

I haven't tried the Whispbar so I can't help you on those ones.

Whoa, that might rule out the yakima for me. I actually had a similar experience on my old civic but didnt know if it would be an issue this time.

Investigating more into the whispbar, seems like a good base rack, but fitting the trays in the t slots seems to be the unknown factor for now. Does anyone know if you can use Thule's x-adapt to fit their trays to the whispbar?

Cracksandracks feel free to chime in!

I personally prefer the Thule products. The whispbars are an unknown quantity at the moment as they are very new to market. If you really want the more expensive aero looking bars thule makes those as well. IMHO just go with the base thule tracker kit and square bars. The squares are more compatible than the rapid aero/whisps will be, and the traverse is much easier to install that the Q towers in my experience. I haven't installed any whispbar systems though yet.
