    Got my hitch and rack.

Dang! Mounting the hitch receiver was a total PITA. I had to remove the rear bumper of my '96 GTi altogether and lots of hard to drill places. Fit was less than stellar. I had to cut my muffler mount shorter to keep it from rubbing, and install a handful of washers behind my whole exhaust system to drop it 1/4" to keep it from rubbing. When all that didnt' work. I had to bend the crap out of my exhaust mounts with a long piece of pipe to get it to clear. Also, I had to take a grinder to some of the mounting hardware to get it to fit in the bumper cavity. I actually ended up using a strut nut inside because a regular nut and wrench would not fit in the cavity to snug it up. The instructions estimated 50 minutes to install.... my ass! I think I put in around 5 hours including all the adjustments and frabrication I had to do to make it fit and not rub.

So I got this Performance X-Port flatbed rack on sale combined with a coupon for $120 out the door. Suh-weet. The only flaw I found in the rack is that the bikes can't be exactly the same height, or the hooks won't pull down on one of the bikes.

Other than that, I'm happy with the end result. $180 for the receiver kit and $120 for the rack.

It comes with an adapter to fill a 2" receiver. My GTi had nothing to attach the rack. Maybe I'm not using the word receiver correctly.
