    Golf Bike Rack

    Hi Guys

what would be the best type of bike rack for a Golf MK6?

The ones that go at the rear or roof?

I've never had a bike rack before so any advise on this would be helpful.

    Thanks!

Roof rack, definately. Looking at some good dough to get a hitch rack that will swing out to allow access to the hatch, and a rear rack that doesn't interfere with opening the hatch, will interfere with it staying open when a bike is on it.

Invest in a decent system that you can take with you as you let old cars go.

I have a Kuat NV on mine. Works like a champ. I'll never put a rack on a roof again. Hitch is so much easier. I have the Drawtite 24904 on my GTI and it's barely noticeable without the rack on. The rack doesn't touch the bumper when it folds up and it folds down so that I can get into the hatch even with 2 bikes on it.

From a purely aesthetic standpoint I think roof racks look cool but there's no comparison (in my opinion) to the ease of use of the hitch.

And to flamingtaco's point. You don't really have to worry about shopping around for a rack you can take with you if you buy a hitch rack... just put a hitch on the next car and you're good to go. Plus you can use it on two different cars if you want. We're putting a rack on my fiancees SUV so we can drive hers on longer trips if necessary. It'll take about 2 seconds to move the rack from one car to the other (if that's a concern for you).

Also better gas mileage with the hitch rack and less noise if that matters to you.

    Golf Bike Rack

On my mk5 GLI I use the OEM roof rack with a Kuat Trio rail. Been super happy with both.

The trio is a fork mount but can handle 9,15 and 20mm forks. Very versatile

I have both- a Curt 1 1/4" hitch and a 1UP USA rack, plus a set of Rhino Rack roof bars that are used for skis, cargo box and carrying our tandem. The second best thing about a hitch rack is you can pull into a garage without stopping like you would to unload a roof rack.
