    Bike tray for Yakima.

I just installed my Yakima roof rack and now I need to decide on a bike tray. What do you like and why? Front wheel on or off? Grab the crank, grab the front tire?

Personally, I prefer an upright (wheel on).

I prefer the HighRoller over the FrontLoader. I have both.

the old rack, called the anklebiter deuce, would grab on to the crank arm. it was difficult for people to use, but carrying by the crank arm is very effective and strong. if you ever take a moab shuttle, most of them use racks that drop the crank arm into a tube and that's it.

i agree with tednugent, the highroller is a nicer rack, especially if you are mounting to a yakima bar system. if you only had the factory installed crossbars, the frontloader would be good, but with the highroller, you have the quickrelease to lower the hoops and a stronger overall design.

If you go with the front wheel off, check out Rocky Mounts, I have the tie rods, very sleek design and a really easy to use quick release lever. Plus a little cheaper than Yakima or Thule trays and it will fit either bar system.

I think I like the wheel off style. The upright looks like the bike will be to high when mounted to my truck. I'll have to do some measuring.

Noooo! Do those uprights fold down for driving without the bike?

uprights do fold down. imo, the highroller folds flatter than frontloader. (front loader is pictured above)
