New question here. back rack for VW Tiguan without hitch

    Hi guys.
I recently started riding and been able to put my bike in the back with the seats down. But now my wife is getting her own bike and looks like we will need a rack for the car. We are looking for something that's pretty good and not too expensive. Also We would like to open the back with the rack on even if the bikes are not mounted. Been looking around the internet for information but I cant find anything that really sells me on anything.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks
    Orlando

Are you saying you want to get the hatch open with the bikes too?

If so, I think that means roof rack -- no? Do you have factory cross bars?

Another option might be a Paulchen rack from Germany...

A bit of a pain to get your hands on one in the US, but they are nice. I had one on a Eurovan at one time.

You can muscle them up with bikes mounted but it's not easy.

If you don't have a German connection to help you get one, I think eurocampers.com would help out.

It probably won't be cheap either, but I bet you could sell it for decent money when you're done.

I just want the hatch to open when the bikes are off the rack. If it opens with them on the rack even better but off the rack is just fine.
That one looks pretty cool ill have to look into that one also.

    Thanks

Definitely worth a look. There's a "First Class" version with the tubular wheel holders like the picture, and an "Comfort Class" version with extruded aluminum trays... and also 2 bike and 3 bike versions of each.

Might also want to search ebay item 331187564363 and contact the seller to see if they'll ship to the US.

That's steep. Try the eurocamper.com guys... maybe they could add it to a future shipment?

Also, you won't have to pay the VAT for a US shipment, so that takes some of the edge off. Moreover, the 1.1 exchange rate makes it a good time to by Euro stuff.

Regardless, I think you could get a big chunk of your money back if you sell it when you're done with your Tiguan.

Personally, any other "American" style hatch rack would drive me crazy because they're all the style where you hang your frame (could be an issue with certain "women's" frames without a horizontal top tube, or you have to use an adapter) and your wheels flop around. But if that doesn't bug you, maybe someone can recommend one?
