    5 Bike Rack? options?

Looking to tote 5 full size Mt Bikes. Hitch rack on my Dodge Durango.

Any suggestions that will not tear up the bikes and fit my needs?
    Thanks!

The North Shore 6 Bike rack looks like it will work great, anyone using these?
I have an email to them for a quote for shipping.

The set up on these racks are totally different than other Hitch mounts, I am tired of fighting to fit 4 bikes on a 4 bike hitch rack...

    kpicha,

Racks like that make it really tough to get 5 bikes on. I have a similar one for four bikes and it is a major pain to get 4 on there. It involves taking them on and off and lots of parts rubbing each other.

To the OP. I am a fan of both roof and hitch for 5 bikes. The Northshore rack looks sweet, but couldn't take our BMX bikes and is a lot of weight to lever against the rear end of your vehicle, although, I imagine your Durango could take it.

Yeah, I wondered about that b/c I have a 4 bike Saris Bones trunk rack now that I can't use with our Honda Odyssey anymore and that was a challenge to get them on. Although, the Northshore racks look like the ideal solution, they're just too expensive.

I saw a NSR on the highway on my way back from Montana last summer. They drove next to me for about 10 miles, and that rack looked slick.

Why cant you use it with your Odyssey? I use a 4 bike T2 on my Odyssey.

I always hated my Sportworks/Thule T2 bike rack on the back. Hitch racks are just hard on bikes where we shuttle. We drive a lot of gravel roads and the dust and rocks kill the bikes if you drive fast. I decided to mount the rack in the bed. I bought a universal hitch and mounted it on the one fenderwell . Then, I had my welding buddy build and mount a piece on the other fenderwell to support the other side. I then had the pieces and bed sprayed in Line X. It works pretty good. I can mount 4 bikes in the rack and one beside the rack. All the gear can go under the bikes. Ya, I could have hauled the bikes on the tailgate, but Im not a fan of that method.

I didnt spray the rack just the bed, hitch, and the custom piece to connect the other side.
