2015 VW Golf Sportwagen TDI (first time hitch rack buyer)

Anybody have recommendations for what/where to buy a 2" hitch for a Golf Sportwagen TDI? And self-install feasible or take to a mech to do it?

I was going to do a hitch rack for it and had it narrowed down to the Kuat NV and the 1UP Double Quik which can both handle the 2" (and also seems to be more stable when hauling 2 bikes).

One concern I had about a hitch rack was the exhaust heat impacting the rims - is this an issue? Is there anything I need to be concerned about?

Any other recommendations for first-time hitch rack owners? I saw some people put locks on their hitches....is that necessary?

    Thanks!

Most platform racks, and their tilt mechanism like the NV or the Holdup, raise the platform significantly above the receiver. as seen here: away from exhaust.

I got the Ecohitch for my Subaru for the 2". They also make it for your Golf.

Locks. Depends on how much you value your bikes. Locks are merely a deterrent that prevents the thieves that don't lug around power tools.

    2013 Golf TDI Hitch

    Hi,
I installed the Curt Hitch on our 2013 Golf TDI.
    Works decent.
Not sure how different the 2015 sports-wagons are though.

For me, Uhaul was best priced. Less than $200 for the hitch, installed, and with lifetime rust/accident warranty. Basically, if it rusts out or you get in an accident, you get another hitch installed for free.

Ended up going to Rack n Road. The Wagen is only certified for a 1.25" hitch so I got that. Worst case if I need to haul 4 bikes I can look at a roof rack, but don't think that'll be necessary in the near-term. Thanks for all the help!
